Gov. Ritter Signs Historic Energy Bill
After three years of hard work and advocacy by CoPIRG’s staff and members, Gov. Bill Ritter Jr. signed House Bill 1037, Colorado’s most significant energy efficiency legislation to date. Sponsored by Rep. Claire Levy and Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald, the policy will help public utilities establish and expand energy efficiency programs throughout the state.

PIRG-Backed Law Exposes Money From Lobbyists
On Aug. 2, a PIRG-backed lobby reform bill that could shed light on the often-hidden activities of lobbyists and their interactions with legislators passed Congress.

 


 

Report Cites Toxic Threats
CoPIRG recently released a report, “Toxic Pollution and Health,” which uses information from the federal Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) to analyze toxic pollution linked to health problems such as cancer, birth defects and neurological damage. Because of a recent EPA action restricting the public’s right to know, the report may provide one of the last complete pictures of toxic pollution in Colorado.

 

CoPIRG Releases Annual Legislative Scorecard
CoPIRG’s annual legislative scorecard shows how our leaders voted on key public interest issues in the Statehouse. Each of these bills was passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ritter.
